One of the most important things you can do as a mother is to validate your child or teen's emotions. Whether they are upset, happy, or anxious, their feelings are real and deserve acknowledgment.
In our busy lives, it can be easy to dismiss emotions, especially when we don't fully understand them. However, simply saying “I understand how you feel” or “That must be tough” can go a long way in fostering an emotional bond with your child.
When we validate their feelings, we show that we respect them and are emotionally present. This can help build their self-esteem and encourage healthy emotional expression.
Tip: Instead of saying "Don’t cry" or "It’s not that big of a deal," try saying "I see that you’re really upset. I’m here for you." This approach helps them feel supported and safe to express themselves.
