As your child transitions into their teenage years, so too must you prepare yourself for the shift in your role as a parent. Teenagers need space to explore their identity, but they also need guidance, boundaries, and love. It can be difficult to strike a balance between giving them independence and ensuring they stay on the right path.

Start by recognizing that your role is evolving from being a “director” of their life to being a “coach” or “mentor.” Focus on being a source of support, wisdom, and emotional stability while respecting their need for autonomy.

Practical Tip: Reflect on your own expectations and parenting style. Are you prepared to give your teen the space they need while still providing guidance? Adjust your mindset to embrace the teenage years as a phase of growth for both you and your child. Set aside regular moments to connect with them, whether it’s through family activities or one-on-one conversations.
